3 charged in connection to burning body found in April

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Three people have been charged in connection to the death of a man found burning in Jackson April 11.

Tuesday, officers arrested Marcus Shelby and charged him with capital murder and arson in the death of Duan Penn, according to Jackson police.

Penn’s body was discovered bound and on fire in a grassy area off Forest Avenue Extension near Methodist Home Road in Jackson.

Friday, investigators arrested Janice Pittman and charged her with capital murder.

Another man, Raymond Jackson, has been charged with arson.

Man gunned down on Northside Drive

JACKSON, MS (WLBT)- A man was shot and killed around two Monday afternoon as he walked along Northside Drive. It happened near Manhattan Road, where Chastain Middle School and the Tisdale Library are located.

Police spokeswoman Colendula Green says a car came up behind the victim, and a passenger got out and opened fire. Green says the victim ran toward the library, where he collapsed in the bushes. He was pronounced dead at a Jackson hospital. His name was not released, but Green said he appeared to be in his early 20s.

JSU baseball beats GSU 5-3

The Jackson State baseball team picked up a 5-3 victory over the Grambling State Tigers Sunday afternoon at Robert "Bob" Braddy, Sr. Field. The game, which was originally scheduled to be played Saturday, is JSU's final contest before heading to the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday.

Coral bells are perpetual favorites, and their colorful foliage can add interest and texture to any garden.

The first coral bells had green foliage, but these days, green foliage selections can be hard to find. New selections have purple, red, and white marbling and different colored venation. You will often see foliage colors of bright gold, orange and brown.

The Mississippi Children's Museum will soon welcome its first traveling exhibit -- "Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites".

The exhibit features famous characters and iconic scene taken right out of the pages of seven celebrated children's books: "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "The Snowy Day", "Abuela", "Tuesday", and "Where’s Spot?".

Storyland's grand opening is Saturday, May 19. It will run through Aug. 26.
